DENTISTRY INTERVIEW

So i actually wanted to share my experience since last year but got no time....huhuhu

BTW in this post I'm going to use both English and Malay  :)

And i'm so sorry if there any grammatical errors hihhi

So since my exam already finish and I got some free time, I decide to share my experience went to  interview for Doctors of Dental Surgery (DDS) at USM and Bachelors in Dental Surgery (BDS) at UITM last year (2018). I will share my USM experience in this post and UITM in the next post :)

I don't really remember all the question since the interview was about 10 months ago...(i should write it earlier i guess hahahaha) but i will try my best to remember

So, I decided to pursue dentistry in university after finished my matriculation college. I put dentistry USM for my UPU's first choice and then UKM and the third is UITM( i don't know why during my time i can only apply 3 course with interview :'( Is it still the same now? ) and fourth I mohon Medic UITM (no need interview) and the rest  i don't remember what i applied for hehehe (I tak mohon UM sebab I taknak UM and I also don't know why)

Some nasihat nak mohon upu, make sure the course that you guys decide to mohon tu memang you betul-betul minat, untuk masa hadapan you guys bukan sebab nak ikut kawan ke...make sure buat solat istikharah for muslim supaya Allah bagi petunjuk...Next, read the requirement for each course like minimum pointer during matric or stpm or foundation, untuk dentristry ni depends on university, some university want 3.5 above and some of them want 3.75 above. Make some research for the course and program that you applied for example untuk dentistry in Malaysia ada dua jenis which is DDS and BDS, you guys boleh search beza antara dua tu and which university offfer which. But i think lebih kurang je dua tu.

So I dapat panggilan untuk pergi interview di USM and UITM...For UKM, they will ask you to make video and send it to them,if you guys passed the video phase then you guys will be called to go for their interview and my lazy ass is TOO LAZY to make the video and decide to give up with UKM (please jangan ikut perangai ni hahaha). 

MAKE SURE YOU GUYS ARE WELL PREPARED BEFORE GOING TO THE INTERVIEW AND TRY YOUR BEST TO SHINE DURING THE INTERVIEW SESSION

DENTISTRY USM INTERVIEW 

So, i put USM as my first choice dalam UPU and program yang USM offers is DDS. USM's School of Dental Sciences is located at USM health campus in Kubang Kerian Kelantan (most people actually dont know that USM has a campus at kubang kerian). Two days before the interview i went to Kelantan from JB. I still remember that i can't really sleep the night before the interview because i was too NERVOUSSSSS!!!!

The night before I recheck all the document that they asked me to bring , make more and more research about dentistry and also USM.

SO THE DAY FINALLY COMEEEE

I arrived USM about 7.30AM and its already loaded will people.

We first gathered at School of Dental Sciences' auditorium.We were divided into some group from A-Z I guess, where they paste the grouping paper on the wall and WE NEED TO SEARCH OUR NAME ONE BY ONE OURSELVES. Then, they bring us group by group to go to another place which some sort of meeting room at the second floor. Parents all waited at the auditorium and only the candidates go to the meeting room. So, after all the candidates arrived the meeting room,they brief us about the flow on that day.

Btw among 200-300 candidates that being called to interview, only 50 will be chosen .Competition untuk interview dentistry USM maybe lagi sengit because you not only compete with student from matriculation/foundation/stpm/diploma but also A-level, IB and student tajaan mara.

The interview is divided into two parts which is 

• wire bending
• Interview 

Depends ikut orang, some dapat wire bending dulu baru interview, some kena panggil interview dulu baru wire bending. I dipanggil untuk buat wire bending dulu ,I remember that time was 3PM( i waited since 9 AM :'((  )

So i dengan beberapa orang yang satu group dengan I pergi turun bawah ke prostho lab at first floor.

Sampai kat prostho lab kami duduk di meja masing-masing, on the table they prepared us with a pencil,an A4 paper, a smol paper with a photo of the shape they want us to bend the wire (we need write our name and paste the wire that we bend on the paper later) and a tool for us to use to bend the wire(adam plier). By the way, I do bring my own pen, pencil and ruler inside there (PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE REMEMBER TO BRING YOUR RULER). So, they first show the the tutorial video of how to do the wire bending and they give us like 10 or 15 minutes like that(i don't remember which one) to do the wire bending.

The shape that i got is OHM shape...(can google how its look like)

After dah habis masa, we paste the wire on the smol paper and send it in front.

Some tips for wire bending, wire bending ni I rasa they want to look for our hands skill and how teliti we are because dentistry ni sangat sangat pentingkan ketelitian. Kalau boleh sebelum pergi interview tu you guys dah prepare betul-betul, tengok video wire bending kat youtube, and try buat wire bending sendiri kat rumah or before the interview (The wire sangat sangat keras i told you, so memang perlu banyak tenaga nak bend wire tu).

Here comes the interview part. I legit was the last person to be interviewed. I enter the interview room dalam pukul 5 ++PM if i not mistaken. So, i enter my interview room after they called my name (ada banyak bilik interview... tengok nasib you guys dapat room yang mana kalau bernasib baik interviewer tu chill and have fun je pastu ada je yang dapat interviewer tu strict). For me my interviewer tak strict sangat tak fun sangat,so so je lah. They are 4 interviewer in one room which means 4 interviewer will interview you alone.

After I enter the room, I beri salam to all the interview and said good evening with SMILE....MAKE SURE YOU SMILE LL THE TIME DURING THE INTERVIEW BECAUSE THEY WILL GIVE YOU GOOD IMPRESSION

After that they read my resume and go through all my certificates.

The question that they asked me:

• Introduce yourself. I talked about myself, my previous education,my family (siblings and parents),where I came  from and so on

• Why did you choose dentistry?This one i just goreng the answer, I answer that i love to make people smile and seeing patient can smile again happily after dental treatment make me happy and i said that people now days does not really care about their teeth and oral hygiene and i want to raise awareness and want them to realize how important our teeth is.There are a lot more things that i goreng hahahaha

• What is the first thing you know about dentistry? I answered dentist love to pull off people's teeth. HAHAHAHA I told them that during primary school, i really adore dentist because they treat people's teeth(This question can goreng)

• Why choose USM?Cliche answer because USM is APEX university. USM provide high quality education for their student. This question also i goreng a lot hahaha (even though you can goreng but this question required you to do some research about USM and USM school of dental sciences about their history, achievement, chanselor, vice chancelor, dean of the school and so on)

• What did you know about dentistry?I talked about the branches in dentistry and share all the things that i know about dentistry (You need to have knowledge for this question so study and read some articles or websites and find more information about dentistry. More is better because it may shows that you have passion in this course)

• What are the common dental treatment that you know? This question also need knowledge so read and study. I answer all the treatment that i know hahahaha

• Situation question (question in Bahasa Melayu and NEED to answer it in BM too): Anda ingin menyambung pengajian dalam bidang pergigian namun bapa anda mahu anaknya menyambung pengajian dalm bidang kejuruteraan.Apakah tindakan anda? This just like soalan KBAT during PT3 and SPM so just answer ikut logic 

From my experience, i rasa if you guys well prepared and yakin masa interview i'm sure you guys akan perform and dapat pass the interview. Even if you rasa jawapan yang you jawab tu mungkin mengarut or salah just yakin. Jawab dengan yakin, jangan terlalu nervous make sure you answer the interviewer clearly with clear voice. Also make sure they can easily understand what are you saying. 

I passed the interview and now studying DDS at USM. So, dentistry can be fun and stressful at the same time so if you guys really have passion dalam dentistry, you guys kena kuat physically and mentally and everything will be okay. So just enjoy it.
